The Operating System of a machine is probably the second most important thing in our world. The OS gives the instruction set to the hardware and that is where the PC/Device knows what it is suppose to do. There are many different types of Operating Systems in our industry. For instance Windows, Linux, Unix, MacOS (Linux Based) and so on. I am going to show you how to install Ubuntu Server in this article. If you would like to learn how to install a different OS let me know the only one I can do is MacOS, Sorry.

Here we go:

After you create your VM/USB Stick or connect via PXE Boot we need to initiate the OS install. In my case I am using a VM each method will have a slightly different process (Please be aware of that). I am installing Debian Bullseye and then we will continue from there.

Choose install Debian
Select English

Just press enter here.
Choose United States
Let this complete be patient.
I always give mine a Fully Qualified Domain Name – FQDN (Notice the hostname please). <tab> then Click continue
Select a very secure password and don’t let anyone have it not even your closest friend.
Type in the full username here. <tab> click continue
This would be like your most used non-root/non-admin user.
Give the user a good password. Do not give it the same password you gave the root user.
Press Enter
Wait for this to finish
I choose the first option (Usually for new users).
This is where you want to install the OS so press <enter>
New users choose the first option please.
Just choose the last option (of course if you know what your doing do your thing).
<tab> then press <yes – enter>
Let this finish
It’s installing the OS be patient. On a Pi this will take about 5 to 10 minutes.
Type no here.
Installing the Software Packages
Select No Here
Select Continue
Press Enter to Continue – Make sure to eject the CD/DVD

Once the install has completed, login either via the console or ssh in to the server.
1 – apt update && apt -y full-upgrade
2 – apt -y install curl wget nano net-tools nfs-common
